Transpower Fault Affects Unison’s Supply to its CustomersDate: 13 December 2011
Local electricity distribution company, Unison Networks’ service areas have been affected by a power outage affecting the entire North Island. This afternoon at approximately 12.30pm Transpower, the National Grid operator, experienced a loss of generation at Huntly, which had a spiral affect on feeders across the North Island. Parts of Hawke’s Bay, Taupo and Rotorua have all been affected, and Transpower has advised power should be restored by later this afternoon. Unison is working with Transpower to restore power as soon as possible across its regions. This will require a phased approach for restoration across the affected areas. “The loss of power caused a 20% drop in load across all of our areas, which is significant and also will require careful management to ensure reconnection is carried out smoothly,” said Unison Group Chief Executive, Ken Sutherland. Unison managed lines company, Centralines, has also been affected. Restoration has already commenced in this area however, with Waipawa’s power currently being re-connected. “We continue to ask customers for their patience as we work with Transpower to ensure power can be restored as soon as possible,” said Mr Sutherland. -Ends- |
