TREES AND YOUR POWER SUPPLY

Call Unison First - 0800 2 UNISONTrees that grow too close to powerlines are dangerous and cause about 20% of unplanned outages to your supply.

Even when trees appear to be well clear of the lines, they can still pose a threat to the power supply during storms and strong winds.

If you have noticed that your trees are encroaching on the lines, or if you have received a notice from Unison or their contractor informing you of the need to cut or trim your tree, you should arrange to have this work completed immediately.

But BEWARE! This is hazardous work. The Electricity Regulations specify that no person is permitted within four metres of a powerline without approval.

In Hawke’s Bay, Rotorua and Taupo this approval can only be granted by Unison.

In most cases the work will need to be carried out by a specialist contractor, fully qualified and experienced in tree trimming around live powerlines.
