Kahurananki Road Power Upgrade Project

Kahurananki Road Power Upgrade Project

As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the safety and reliability of your electricity, Unison Networks will be replacing old poles and lines along Kahurananki Road. The current infrastructure is between 80 to 90 years old and are due for replacement.

This work is critical to ensuring a safe, reliable, and resilient power supply for the future. Scheduled outages will take place throughout the duration of the project to allow for safe completion of this necessary work.

When will the outages occur?

The outages will be scheduled in three sections along Kahurananki Road. Your property will be in one of the three sections.  Here’s what you can expect:

Section 1: April 29 – May 15
  • Number of Outages: 6
  • Scheduled Outage Dates: April 29 – May 15
  • On-Site Work Dates: April 29 – May 15
Section 2: April 29 – August 8
  • Number of Outages: 20
  • Scheduled Outage Dates: April 29 – August 8
  • On-Site Work Dates: June 23 – August 8
Section 3: April 29 – October 17
  • Number of Outages: 31
  • Scheduled Outage Dates: April 29 – October 17
  • On-Site Work Dates: September 8 – October 17

*Note this plan is subject to change. For the latest outage schedule visit our outages page.

Why is this work necessary?

The power poles and lines currently in use along Kahurananki Road have been in place for over 80 years. Replacing these old structures will prevent power disruptions and reduce the risk of failure, making your electricity more reliable and resilient  in the long run.

Because the power line is a single-direction line that ends at a specific point, electricity cannot be redirected into the network from another source during maintenance. This means outages are necessary to safely perform the work.

How will this affect me?

  • Scheduled Power Outages: It’s estimated the project will require two outages per week, each lasting six hours.
  • Traffic Disruptions: You may notice additional vehicles and large trucks with poles and equipment on Kahurananki Road. Please take care when driving through the area.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience as we work to improve your power supply for the future.
