Safe Sparks Schools Programme

Safe Sparks Programme

We offer a safety education programme for primary schools in our areas, completely free of charge.

'Safe Sparks' delivers important and serious electrical safety messages, which we believe to be life-saving for the children in our community.

New! Safe Sparks goes digital

In 2024, we're launching a digital version of our Safe Sparks programme!

With all the key messaging that comes with our original programme, digital Safe Sparks is an interactive, animated, engaging and most importantly, fun way for primary school aged children to learn how to stay safe around electricity.

Our digital Safe Sparks serves as a resource for all primary school teachers and staff in our areas to have on-hand as an introduction to safety around electricity or as a refresher in between visits from our in-person Safe Sparks team.

The digital programme is intended to be completed together as a class for younger children (led by the teacher) and completed individually for those older children who are capable. Please ensure to fill out the form at the end of the programme so we can know where all our Safe Sparks are from.

In-person programme

Run as a two-part, indoor and outdoor session, our Safe Sparks Programme has specially designed sessions for different primary year levels - Junior & Middle School (Year 1 - 4) and Senior School (Year 5 & 6).

Our programme runs for around one hour and is adapted to suit your individual school bell times.

Indoor session

Our Programme Coordinator will take students through a fun and informative, visual presentation covering the following key topics:

  • Identifying electricity in the home, classroom and community
  • Understanding how electricity is made
  • Developing skills to keep ourselves, our friends and our family safe around electricity
  • Identifying Unison's electrical assets out in the community
Outdoor session

Delivered by a member of our field staff, students are given the opportunity to get an up close look at the safety gear and equipment they use while working around electricity, along with examples of things that have been damaged by electricity.

Who are Safe Sparks?

Safe Sparks are cool kids who know how to keep themselves and others safe around electricity out in the community.

Safe Sparks can point out electrical dangers around their neighbourhood and aren't afraid to speak out if they see a problem!

Activity books & certificates

All students who take part in Unison's Safe Sparks Programme, either digitally or in-person, will be presented with a follow-up activity book and certificate of completion.

Using puzzles, activities and games, our activity books are the perfect follow-up resource to our Safe Sparks Programme.

Schools that complete the programme digitally will have activity books and certificates sent out to them once we've received a completed form from the end of the programme.
