Spencer Road, Network Upgrade

Project Overview

As part of Unison's commitment to provide a reliable electricity supply to its customers in Rotorua, Unison will be upgrading its power distribution assets on Spencer Road. This will improve the reliability of electricity for businesses and residents in the area.

Project Details

Unison will be upgrading approximately 7km of overhead network that runs from the junction of Mead Road and Tarawera Road, then along Spencer Road, in the Lake Tarawera area. This upgrade will involve replacing the existing power poles and overhead conductor, including 1.5km of low voltage (400V) conductor. It is a large-scale project, with 87 poles being replaced, and as such has been broken down into two stages to minimise disruption during the Christmas holiday period.

Stage One:

Work is scheduled from mid October and is expected to be completed in December 2019, weather depending. Work hours will usually be between 7.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday.

Stage Two:

Work is scheduled from February 2020 and is expected to be completed by May 2020.

Spencer Road Rotorua 2

Traffic Management will be in place and the work may result in some road closures or one-lane traffic. Please take extra care while in the area, or consider an alternative route.

While this is an important investment and will provide benefits to the community, there will be some disruption to enable the work to be completed safely

Planned power outages will be kept to a minimum and will occur outside of business hours. Affected customers will be notified in advance.

Thank you for your patience while we upgrade your power supply.
