Safety Disconnection 

We offer a free Safety Disconnection service to all customers in our network areas, so that you can work safely around your home without the risk of electrical burn injuries or electrocution.

Some DIY and maintenance jobs you might do around your property such as clearing gutters or painting may put you in danger of making contact with the service line connecting your home to the power lines in your street. Before commencing any task, check the location of your service line, and organise a Safety Disconnection if you will be within four meters of the line or have any concerns about working around live electricity to your property.

We’ll come and temporarily disconnect your power supply so you can work without risk of electrocution or serious injury. Once you’ve finished your task, we’ll reconnect the power to your home, free of charge.

Please note, charges may apply out of hours.

If the connection is no longer required for example, because a property is being redeveloped, a building demolished or a house removed, then the electrical installation at the property must be permanently disconnected from the network by Unison prior to any work being undertaken to ensure the installation can no longer be livened and is electrically safe. If you wish to report an emergency fault, such as fallen live lines, a motor accident or have heard a large bang, please call us immediately on 0800 2 UNISON (0800 2 86476) and do not fill out this online form.

Before reconnecting the power supply, the Unison representative may require a valid Record of Inspection (RoI), Certificate of Compliance (CoC) or Electricity Safety Certificate (ESC) depending on the work done.

Following your request for a Safety Disconnection/Reconnection Service, a Unison Field Inspector or Faultperson will be in touch to confirm the time you have requested. Depending on staff availability, it may be necessary to reschedule your appointment. 

I agree to pay any charges from Unison if a Unison employee is required to disconnect or reconnect the power supply outside of 8.30am - 4pm.

Depending on the type of work that was done while the power was disconnected, Unison may require a valid Record of Inspection (RoI), Certificate of Compliance (CoC)  or Electricity Safety Certificate (ESC).  I understand that if the relevant document is not provided to Unison on request, the reconnection of the power supply will not occur.

I confirm that if the power supply is reconnected by an individual other than a qualified Unison employee, that individual will possess OS1010 Certification.
