Fault finding with drone over private property
Flying Drones for Inspections
As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and reliable electricity network we use a drone to inspect power lines to help find faults. Occasionally this means we need to fly near or above private property to locate a fault.
Why do we use drones?
Drones are a fast and efficient tool for identifying faults in power lines, especially in hard to access areas. During these inspections, our drones capture photos or videos of Unison assets (poles, conductors etc.) to help us pinpoint issues so we can get to work fixing the problem.
Compliance with Regulations
When flying drones, we adhere to all applicable laws and regulations governing drone operations. Our team is committed to ensuring that drone flights are conducted safely, responsibly, and in full compliance with legal requirements.
Gaining Permission for Drone Flights
If there is a need to use a drone and fly over your property to inspect poles or conductors whilst trying to locate a fault, we will contact you to request your permission.
Respect for Privacy and Property
We understand the importance of respecting privacy and property:
- Drones are operated to avoid any disturbance to people or livestock/pets or damage to private property.
- Our team takes care to ensure that flights do not interfere with individuals' reasonable expectations of privacy.
Use of Collected Data
Any data collected, such as images or videos, are limited to Unison assets. This data is used solely for fault identification, maintenance, and repair purposes, ensuring its use aligns with our operational needs and privacy considerations.
Commitment to Safety
Our priority is the safe and responsible operation of our drones. Our qualified operators work diligently to minimise any potential impact on our customers, and the surrounding environment.
