Trees Near Power Lines

Trees cause around 20% of our unplanned outages and can be a safety hazard. To keep the power on and everyone safe, all vegetation such as trees, hedges, vines, or plants should be kept at least four metres from power lines.

If vegetation on your property is too close to power lines, contact a local arborist. They’ll liaise with Unison to make sure the work is done safely.

Under the law, property owners are responsible for ensuring vegetation does not grow too close to power lines. You must keep vegetation clear of these lines.
Unison DOES NOT cut or trim vegetation affecting service lines (also known as the mains cable) or private lines. See the image below for the difference between a Unison network line and a service line.
Cutting or trimming vegetation near live lines is dangerous. If vegetation on your property is too close to power lines, please contact a local arborist who can advise if it is safe for them to do the work, or if Unison will need to assist with removing it.
