Unison brings EnergyMate service to Hawke’s Bay and Taupō
Unison Networks (Unison) is working with the Electricity Retailers Association of New Zealand (ERANZ) to launch a free energy coaching service, EnergyMate, to its Taupō and Hawke’s Bay customer regions.
EnergyMate is a free, home-based energy coaching service led by ERANZ with support from lines companies, electricity retailers, community organisations, and the New Zealand Government. The programme aims to help whānau who are struggling to pay their power bills, by offering in-home coaching and community hui.
Unison first partnered with EnergyMate with its initial pilot in 2019, launching the programme into Rotorua. Following this success, Unison has continued its support since 2019 and is extending this to the entirety of its network areas.
Unison General Manager Commercial, Jason Larkin said Unison truly values the impact of EnergyMate and is pleased to see its growth over the past four years.
“We see our involvement in this programme as a great way to support families to make their homes warmer and healthier. Through its simple tips, EnergyMate helps these families achieve a more energy efficient home, while ensuring they are on the best pricing plan and connecting them with other services, such as budgeting support or home insulation.
“It’s been pleasing to see the success of the programme in Rotorua, supporting over 500 families since the pilot launched in 2019. We’re very proud to be extending the programme to our communities and whānau in Taupō and Hawke’s Bay too.
“Coming into winter, energy efficiency and keeping your home warm can be tough for many families. Thanks to ERANZ we’ll be sharing some EnergyMate tips on how to save money on your power bill, while keeping warm through the chilly the season. Check out our Facebook and Instagram pages over the next month for some useful tips in preparation for winter,” Mr Larkin said.
ERANZ Chief Executive, Bridget Abernethy said ERANZ is very thankful for Unison’s ongoing support of EnergyMate and is pleased the programme continues to increase its support of more whānau.
“Unison has been on board since EnergyMate started. This loyal support is very much appreciated and is a testament to the programme’s successful pilot launch in Rotorua.
“We’re grateful that Unison is willing to extend this support into Taupō and Hawke’s Bay so that more of their communities can benefit from these services. Thanks also to the newly trained EnergyMate coaches from Tūramatia (Taupō) and Ngāti Pāhauwera Development Trust (Napier & Hastings) for delivering the programme in these new areas,” Ms Abernethy said.
In 2022, EnergyMate was named the winner of the Outcomes Award at the New Zealand Energy Excellence Awards, celebrating better energy outcomes for all New Zealanders.
