Unison proudly joins the 2025 Rotorua Business Awards as sponsor of Katiakitanga Sustainability

Tompkins Wake CEO Jon Calder and Rotorua Business Chamber CEO Melanie Short officially open the awards with a ribbon cutting.

Unison Networks is proud to announce its sponsorship of the Kaitiakitanga Environmental Sustainability and Climate Change Award at the 2025 Tompkins Wake Rotorua Business Awards.

The award recognises local businesses that embrace kaitiakitanga - the principle of environmental guardianship - to protect the environment for future generations. It celebrates organisations that are leading the way in sustainability, through initiatives such as clean air and water, waste minimisation, energy conservation, and fostering a strong culture of environmental responsibility.

Unison General Manager Commercial and Regulatory, Jason Larkin said Unison was proud to support an award that aligns so closely with its values.

“Unison has a strong focus on enabling a sustainable energy future for our communities. We’re pleased to celebrate and support local businesses in Rotorua who are championing environmental responsibility through innovative and impactful practices.

“We’d also like to thank the Rotorua Business Chamber for their ongoing work in delivering the awards and providing a platform for local businesses to shine,” Mr Larkin said.

Rotorua Business Chamber Chief Executive Officer, Melanie Short welcomed Unison’s involvement in the awards programme.

“We’re thrilled to have Unison on board this year, especially as sponsor of a category that highlights the importance of sustainability and climate action.

“The Kaitiakitanga Award reflects the commitment many Rotorua businesses have to leaving a positive legacy, and Unison’s support helps us celebrate and encourage that work,” Ms Short said.

The Rotorua Business Awards were launched at the Novotel Rotorua Lakeside where local businesspeople gathered to kick off this year’s programme.

Entries for the 2025 Rotorua Business Awards are open now and close on Friday 27 June 2025. You don’t need to be a Chamber member to enter or nominate.
