UnisonFibre and Telecom Join Forces

UnisonFibre has today confirmed the signing of an agreement with Telecom New Zealand that will support the growing use of fibre for education and business benefits across the Hawkes Bay, Rotorua and Taupo regions. Telecom will ultimately leverage UnisonFibre to deliver the powerful fibre network services businesses need to thrive in today’s digital world.

UnisonFibre General Manager, Mike McGarvey said the agreement with Telecom was a significant milestone for the Company.

“From the outset, we have focused on building a high-quality network backed by world-class service.  We have worked hard to establish a reputation based on these core values, and to have Telecom choose UnisonFibre as a fibre network provider shows we are achieving these goals. We’re excited about the future opportunities this partnership will present to our business customers.”

Telecom General Manager Product and Service Delivery Lindsay Cowley said the agreement with UnisonFibre will support the future growth of fibre services in the regions.

“Our regional communities are the engine rooms of New Zealand’s economy and need access to high speed data services to unleash their full potential. Businesses today are looking at how they can take advantage of data hungry technology solutions such as cloud computing, mobility and smart data, and schools are tapping into fibre to enable digital learning. A quality fibre connection enables the powerful networks needed to carry these valuable services,” says Mr Cowley. “We’re delighted to be partnering with UnisonFibre to further strengthen our capability to deliver better, faster data services to the Hawkes Bay, Taupo and Rotorua areas.”

UnisonFibre’s network covers Hawke’s Bay, Taupo and Rotorua, now spanning over 620 kilometres and passing over 8,000 homes and businesses.

“We’ve continued to work closely with retailers to grow our network organically from the core backbone connecting the key business areas of our regions.  We are excited about the growth opportunities of working with Telecom, and the economic benefits for our regions as more businesses make the move to fibre,” said Mr McGarvey.
