Available Network Capacity Maps
Distributed Generation
Energy Connections
Our Distributed Energy Connection Map helps to estimate available Hosting Capacity for connecting large-scale renewable generation projects to Unison’s high-voltage (HV) network. By providing greater visibility of network capacity, it supports Aotearoa’s transition to sustainable energy.
For large-scale projects, contact us early in your planning process. Our team will work with you and your engineering consultant to ensure your project aligns with the network requirements.
DG Hosting Capacity Information
The DG hosting capacity map provides an estimate of the network’s remaining capacity to accommodate additional distributed generation. As it is based on assumptions and represents a single point in time, it should not be relied upon for detailed feasibility studies.
Currently, the map only includes the high-voltage network, making it useful for large-scale generators in site selection. However, it does not cover the low-voltage network, meaning residential installations like rooftop solar are excluded.

Network Spare Capacity Map
At Unison, we focus on using the available network capacity to keep costs down and maintain reliable service. Spare capacity refers to the unused capacity on our network that can be leveraged for future demand, helping to reduce or delay the need for expensive infrastructure upgrades.
As a customer looking to connect to Unison’s network, understanding available or spare capacity in a specific location will help you determine Unisons ability to accommodate your connection without the need for network upgrades.
