Faraday Museum opens exhibition celebrating 100 years of Unison powering communities

Faraday Museum Manager, Sharyn Phillips speaks on the strong connection between the museum and Unison.

Unison is partnering with Napier’s Faraday Museum of Technology to host an exhibition that showcases its history as it celebrates a century of powering communities.

Open to the public from 21 June until 31 August, the 100 Years of Unison Exhibition offers an interactive experience, showcasing historical stories and items, many donated from the public, from Unison's century-long journey. Visitors will gain a unique insight into the history of electricity distribution in Hawke’s Bay’s and the consumer-owned company.

Founded on 19 June 1924 as the Hawke’s Bay Electric Power Board, Unison has grown from a small lines company in Hawke’s Bay to a global group of specialist electricity companies.

Unison Group Chief Executive, Jaun Park said he is proud of the company's long-standing relationship with the community.

"We’re very proud of our long-standing connection with our communities over the past 100 years. As we mark this century of service, we want to celebrate with everyone who has been part of our journey. The museum’s special 'Live Day' on Saturday 29 June is a great chance for our people and community members to connect with Unison's history and celebrate together with free entry.

"This milestone isn’t just an opportunity to reflect on how far we’ve come as a region over the last 100 years, but also serves as inspiration for what the next 100 years could bring," Mr Park said.

Faraday Museum Manager, Sharyn Phillips is excited to collaborate with Unison to create an exhibition that is interesting, fun, and educational for the community, honouring the region's history.

"Teaming up with Unison to commemorate their significant achievement has been incredibly rewarding. Unison has been instrumental in driving the growth of Hawke's Bay and has been owned by the region's electricity consumers since 1993.

"This exhibition honours the countless individuals who have contributed over the past century, as well as Unison's ongoing and future impact on our community. We warmly welcome everyone to join us at the museum to celebrate this momentous occasion," Mrs Phillips said.
