Police and UnisonFibre Connecting Local Community Through Sport

Children from Maraenui Primary School and Richmond Primary School enjoyed a morning of friendly '4-on-4' basketball last Friday, as part of a community initiative supported by UnisonFibre and local Police. 

The 'Nui Street Ball' event, organised by the Maraenui Police, is part of on-going efforts to connect with, and better understand its community.

Competition was fierce, with Richmond Primary taking out the first place trophy, and Maraenui securing both second and third place.

A team trophy was awarded to Richmond Primary for their win, as well as individual medals to each team player.

A 'Most Valuable Player' certificate was also awarded to one player from each school, and both schools walked away with bags full of goodies kindly donated by UnisonFibre.  

UnisonFibre's Business Manager, Richard Millea, said the Company shared the view of Maraenui Police around the importance of strengthening community relationships.

"We thoroughly enjoyed being a part of this year's event and seeing the positive impact it had on the community.

"Powerman was there with a range of give-aways, which the kids just love. It's great to be able to give something back to help our region prosper."

The students were kept entertained with surround-sound music, 'a dance-off' competition, as well as a visit from Hawke's Bay Magpies player, Ihaia West.

To wrap up the day, all players got to refuel with a sausage sizzle, also provided by UnisonFibre.  

"Maraenui is a really neat little community and it's nice to be able to showcase that," said Mr Millea.
