Taupo’s Junior Hockey Players Recognised for Excellence On and Off the Field

With Taupo’s junior hockey season having drawn to a close for 2016, Unison this week recognised players for their excellence, both on and off the field.

The 40 proud recipients who took to the stage as part of Unison’s annual Medal Ceremony in Taupo, were nominated by their coaches for having consistently shown great work ethic, discipline and fair-play.

Unison Group Chief Executive Officer, Ken Sutherland said the Unison Medal was becoming a highlight of the season for many young players across the region.

“This is just the second year we have run the Medal Ceremony in Taupo, as part of our support for grass-roots hockey in the region.

“We take great satisfaction in seeing how delighted the recipients are to receive their Medal in front of their family and friends.”

Great Lake Taupo Hockey Club Development Officer, Aniek Lenoir said the partnership with Unison had grown from strength to strength again this season.

“Unison’s support continues to make a big difference to our junior hockey programme – in terms of both participation rates and lifting the overall quality of the programme we can offer.

“It’s great to have the backing of a local Company, and to see them so passionate about inspiring our future hockey stars.”

Mr Sutherland said through its support of junior hockey, Unison was able to engage with children on important safety issues, while at the same time supporting the Club to enhance their development programme, and nurture a life-long passion for the game in young players.

“We’re passionate about supporting our local communities, and about keeping them safe.  Our partnership with Taupo Hockey has enabled us to engage with a number of local children and their families this year to remind them about the importance of keeping safe around electricity.”
