Unison Networks partners with Gridsight to transform LV network visibility with AI
Unison Networks Limited (Unison) has partnered with Gridsight, an Australian company specialising in AI-driven low voltage network analytics to enhance electricity network visibility and performance across its Hawke’s Bay, Taupō and Rotorua regions.
The new partnership will enable Unison to leverage smart meter data to provide customers with clearer insights into hosting capacity on the low voltage network. This empowers our customers to make informed decisions about adopting consumer energy resources such as solar panels and batteries, while also supporting reliable connections and future-ready energy solutions. This approach is closely aligned with Unison’s network and customer strategies, which prioritise innovation, reliability, and proactive support for the evolving energy needs of our communities. By integrating advanced analytics and data-driven insights, we are not only enhancing network visibility but also delivering on our commitment to empower customers and facilitate a smarter, more resilient electricity network for the future.
Gridsight’s platform applies advanced analytics to data sources such as voltage, load and power quality data from smart meters across Unison’s network providing Unison with greater visibility into low-voltage (LV) network conditions. By harnessing smart meter data and advanced analytics, Unison can provide customers with clearer information to help them plan for future energy needs, such as installing solar panels or batteries. The platform also enables earlier detection of voltage issues and emerging faults, quicker investigation times, and clearer insights to guide long-term planning.
Unison’s GM Networks and Operations Gagan Chadha said “Partnering with Gridsight gives us the visibility on the low voltage network we need to serve customers better today and prepare for tomorrow. By turning smart meter insights into action, we’re making it easier for our customers to understand hosting capacity on the low voltage network as we have done for high voltage. We can accelerate new and distributed generation connections, and improve our investment decisions across the network.”
Gridsight CEO Brendan Banfield says the collaboration reinforces both organisations’ commitment to delivering a smarter energy system for Unison’s customers.
“Unison’s plan to embed data into how the network is managed and improve their customers’ experience aligns closely with Gridsight’s mission to help electricity distributors use data more effectively and we’re proud to support that journey.
Together, we’re enabling faster insights, faster responses and a smarter, more resilient network for the communities Unison serves. Our partnership further cements Gridsight’s commitment to the New Zealand market and enabling electricity distribution businesses in the energy transition.”
