Unison’s Digital Safe Sparks makes electrical safety fun for kids these school holidays

Designed for kids aged 5 to 11, Unison’s Digital Safe Sparks teaches electricity safety through videos, tips and activities.

With the school holidays underway, Unison Networks (Unison) is encouraging families to take part in Unison’s Digital Safe Sparks Programme, a fun and free, interactive online challenge that teaches children aged 5 to 11 how to stay safe around electricity.

The programme, launched in 2024, builds on Unison’s Safe Sparks School Programme and features short, animated videos, engaging activities, and practical safety tips that can be completed at home, in after-school care, or during the school holidays.

Unison Group General Manager People, Safety and Culture, Rachel Masters said bringing the Safe Sparks Programme online has been crucial to increasing safety awareness among children and families.

“Keeping our children and communities safe around electricity is our top priority. Our Digital Safe Sparks Programme gives every whānau the opportunity to learn together from the comfort of their own home.

“It’s fun and easy to complete, and so far, more than 100 children have taken part, with 94% giving it a five-star rating.

“Every child who completes the Safe Sparks Digital Challenge by the end of October will go in the draw to win one of three $100 Prezzy Cards. I encourage all families to take advantage of this new online programme. It’s a great way to teach kids how to stay safe around electricity, while also giving them the chance to win a prize,” Mrs Masters said.

Greenmeadows School parent, Lisa said she could see the benefits of the programme firsthand.

“My daughter loved completing the Digital Safe Sparks Programme. She found it fun with engaging videos and very easy to complete. It gave her clear and practical advice on how to stay safe, and the following day she pointed out all she had learnt on the way to school.

“I would highly recommend all parents take the short amount of time to complete this with their children to ensure they are knowledgeable and stay safe.” Lisa said.

To enter the prize draw, children simply need to complete the Digital Safe Sparks Programme and submit the short form at the end by 31 October 2025. Three lucky participants will win a $100 Prezzy Card.

The programme is part of Unison’s ongoing commitment to keeping its communities, families and people safe. No login is required, it is completely free, and participants can download a personalised certificate once completed.
