Electricity distributor, Unison Networks, has announced its continued support of the Rotorua Night Market by extending its sponsorship for another three years.

Following seven years of sponsorship, Unison has committed to financially supporting operational and promotional aspects of the market for the next 36 months. This will also include replacing branded market infrastructure as and when required, and the installation of new overhead banners and tents.

Unison Relationship Manager, Danny Gough, said the relationship between Unison and the Night Market has been a great way to highlight Unison’s intrinsic involvement with the community.

“Our partnership has continued to strengthen over the last seven years and it’s great to see how the Council’s vision of revitalising the inner city has come to life.

“We see our sponsorship as a great opportunity to help develop the region at a community level, and we look forward to supporting the Night Market and seeing its continued growth over the next three years”, said Mr Gough.

Rotorua Lakes Council inner city revitalisation portfolio lead Councillor, Karen Hunt, said the Night Market has been integral to lifting the CBD, adding vibrancy and activity that attracts people, while providing opportunities for existing businesses as well as market stall holders.

“Our inner city markets attract a strong following of both locals and visitors. The support of our partners has been crucial to their success and to the overall improvements we’ve seen in the inner city. Having Unison on board into the future, following their considerable contribution to date, is a really great outcome for everyone,” said Councillor Hunt.

Rotorua Lakes Council Manager for Markets, Festivals and Projects, Brigitte Nelson, is pleased to have had Unison by her side over the past seven years as the market has gone from strength to strength.

“We appreciate Unison’s support of the Rotorua community. It is wonderful to have such a long-term commitment continue and we are excited for the future of the market alongside Unison,” said Mrs Nelson.

The Rotorua Night Market – which started in 2010 covering one block and averaging approximately 24 stall holders per week in the first year – has steadily grown in popularity and now covers two blocks, averaging more than 60 stalls per week during the peak summer period.

Running every Thursday in Tutanekai Street, the Night Market has become a weekly event for many locals, and attracts tourists with its vibrant atmosphere and wide range of ethnic eateries.
